MANAGERIAL SUBSYSTEM: INDONESIA

You've seen the creative talents gaining global recognitions, now it's time to switch your attention to those bringing fashion for us to fulfil our bottomless sartorial pursuits. They are MVPs in my book, since I basically owe 50% of my wardrobe to these guys.

RETAIL

Jakarta is home to 170 malls, one of the largest number worldwide. To name a few, we have Plaza Indonesia (where the luxury big names sit), Grand Indonesia, Senayan Plaza, Pacific Place, and many more. Surabaya isn't too shabby as well, with Tunjungan Plaza (and its upcoming 6th expansion space), Galaxy Mall, Supermal Pakuwon Indah, and Ciputra World. Most international brands are also available in Indonesia, from luxury to fast fashion.

Let's see with the company behind these stores. Mitra Adiperkasa is a name to know, since it's responsible to bringing Zara, Topshop, Mango, Adidas, Nike and many more to the local consumers. Trans Fashion Indonesia is behind the distribution of Hugo Boss, Versace, Tod's, Valentino, Jimmy Choo, Furla, and Giorgio Armani.

WHOLESALE

Indonesia, or more specifically Jakarta, is home to the largest textile wholesale hub in Southeast Asia. Yes, I'm talking about Tanah Abang. It may seem like a traditional marketplace, but even the Indonesian VP called it "more important than the stock market". Also not to be missed is Mangga Dua, another major wholesale complex, or its Surabayan counterpart Pasar Atum.

However, don't call these sellers old-style. Applaud their eagerness to jump into the social media marketplace. This made their goods accessible to not only Jakarta, but also to other regions in Indonesia. Check out @chocochipsboutique and @yuanclothing.

LOCAL / ROYAL

Many Indonesians are jumping into the entrepreneur world by launching new creative startups, most of them revolving in fashion. These new players are releasing niche concepts, or utilise e-commerce as means of distribution. There is a plethora of them, so let me give you a preview:

The Papilion
