Event.
(n) something that's going to take over your life in its preparation, but on the day it is done, you will say that all those sweat and tears (*the word blood is omitted from the traditional idiom because - oh hopefully none of those was shed) are not for nothing.
Disclaimer: That's not a textbook definition, but mine.
Part of the FutureProof module is holding a fashion event organised by the students. First off, we sat down together and brainstorm what we want to do. Is it going to be a runway show? A pop-up bazaar? Or something else?
At first, we proposed a retrospective exhibition for the annual Fashion Steps Out (This happened on Term 1). However, for this year the event will be held as 'Fiesta on a Great Street', and the retrospective idea wasn't approved.
Last year, for my Fashion Coordination and Promotion module, I did a fashion showcase titled UPRISING, showcasing the works of the would-be Fashion Design graduates of Raffles College of Higher Education. I don't know how the client views it, but for me it was one legendary event because:
There were only 8 people in the team, but two proposed events: a runway show and an installation. This was unprecedented.
Due to the small number of students, a venue sponsorship was given to us.
It was the first fashion marketing students' fashion show that showcased the fashion design students' works rather than the alumnis'.
After more brainstorming and discussions, the final event we proposed was something similar to what I have done in the past. We decided on curating a Raffles Privato (a store for Raffles fashion designers) retrospective exhibition. The venue we chose was Paragon, since it's where Raffles Privato is located, and it's still on Singapore's top shopping street.
When that proposal was green-lighted, we were divided into several teams: Production, Sponsorship, Designers, and Marketing.
So what role would I play here? See my next post.
