COMPOSITION EXHIBIT: FLOWER HUNT (3)

Record of April 2017, Part 2.

Earlier back, I recommended three designers who will have their designs in Raffles Privato this year: Regina Lukito, Ivana Lukito, and Kiang Inge. After discussing with the designer team, they will be among the 7 designers in the lineup of the exhibition.

In my past fashion show, we had a lot of our hands. The Creative Direction team had to create everything from scratch - from event concept, marketing collaterals, to production collaterals - not to mention that lack of manpower actually led us to even branch into contacting sponsors.

This time, the Graphic Design students from our school are graciously helping us with the designs of the marketing collaterals, so neither production/marketing team will have to come up with a final design, but only the basic design brief. The brief is mostly done by the marketing team. We'll be going for a geometric, minimalist look.

What we, as the production team had to focus on, was how to get the white flowers in the concept.

These were the local options we got:

  • A la carte flowers from Crate & Barrel, $24.95 per stem. We would need around 4-6 stems for a single vase. This excludes the actual vase. Comes down to approx. $300 and none of us are trained in ikebana or any sort flower arrangement technique.

  • Made-to-order bouquets, vase and arrangement included, with a discounted price of $200 per vase.

I'll be frank here, this is WAY MORE EXPENSIVE than the Indonesian prices. Read along to see that I did not use the caps lock for nothing. Here, we are income-less students with not much budget in our hands.

Thankfully, one of us from the designer team knew someone who could make the requested bouquets in Jakarta, and some of us are going back home to Indonesia for the long weekend.

So we ended up using the ones from Jakarta. It has the same white florals as written in the proposal, vases and arrangement included, and a price tag of $30 per pot. Now that salvaged our budget! Those from the team who will be coming back home to Jakarta will bring those vases in our suitcase when they go back to Singapore.

And that ladies and gentlemen, concludes Composition Exhibit's journey in April.
