Me, a Photography Novice

Instead of being the subject of the camera, I preferred being behind it. But apparently, I never took photography too seriously. I did learn a couple of basics during high school (ISO, white balance, and all the works), but I never gotten myself a decent DSLR after all these years.
As the opportunity to go to Tokyo arrived, I felt that it would be a major waste to fly there sans camera. But at the same time, I lack the skills. I also don't even know which camera is best for me, a major novice. And I confess, I don't like the idea of carrying an 0.7 kg object while I shop.
Still, maybe I could learn by doing, I thought. Just wing it or as they say it in Korea, 에라 모르겠다 (Disclaimer: We still went to Tokyo, not Seoul). I went on Carousell and found a seller who is renting his Samsung NX1000. It has a 'smart' feature where it automatically adjusts it setting according to the scene I'm shooting. I brought the camera on my trip, excluding the third day since we were mostly in no-photos-allowed territory.
As I review the results, they were quite alright! Well, not on par to what I really want to produce, but it's a decent beginning.
